Empire State of Mind

My family and I took a Labor Day weekend trip to the Big Apple.

"New York, New York. So nice they named it twice. Manhattan is the other name"
-Michael Scott

It was super awesome tons of fun.
We got in some key family time.
With my dear sister, lovingly known as Becky Bear, living in Texas and me living and being consumed with the MC lifestyle in Clinton, we Bensons do not get a lot of hang out time.
Also my aunt and uncle that live in El Salvador were there along with my cousins Amy, Kyle, Matt, and Courtney who also live in Texas.
So basically, for me, this was some sort of a family reunion.
And it was amazing.

We did some ultra cool things while in the big city.
We sang "Empire State of Mind" a lot.
Probably too much.
We were soooo 2009.

But I have a few photos of the things I did.
There are more on my facebook.

These pictures are not in chronological order, but this is just the way that Blogger put them here and I am not sure how to move them.

We went to the US Open on Monday. The US Open is a huge professional tennis tournament.
These pros are incredible. Also, the US Open is the largest sporting event in the USA. It grosses more in the 2 weeks that it lasts than any other sporting event in America.
I definitely believe that. There were soooo many people there.
The bathroom lines were outrageous and the food was expensive.
In this particular photo, I was at the top of Louis Armstrong Stadium.
See how many people are there? Yeah, this is the 2nd largest stadium there.

"Here it is. Heart of New York City. Times Square. Named for the.... good times you have when you're in it."
-Michael Scott

We went to the King Tut exhibit.
Blew. My. Mind.
they had the actual artifacts that were taken out of the tomb in the 1920s.

There are street vendors all over the city, but this particular weekend there was a Brazilian Street festival. This festival was about 15 blocks long. Okay dont quote me on 15, but this wasnt just like a 3 block thing. It was epic.
There were booths everywhere, but every block had about the same kind of booths.
The basics were:
scarves
fedoras
imposter sunglasses
jewelry
something handmade
burritos
crepes
fried corn on the cob

those were the staples of the booths.
I got 2 scarves.
We rode the subway everywhere.
Bec is my best model.
We ate pizza every night around 11:30 because its New York and thats what you do.
Okay thats what I do.
The other staple of our evening was a slice of cheesecake at 10:00.
Delicious.
They blocked off one of the streets permanently and set up little red tables everywhere.
I never had time to go sit down though.
oh and there was millions of people there.
every day.
I bumped into a lot of people.
A lot of people bumped into me.
No one said sorry or excuse me.
and someone was always asking me to buy something.
I honestly am not made for the bright lights and the big city, but it was most definitely a welcome distraction from my little college life.
This is the street fair.
super crowded.
super fun.

I had such a lovely time. I really did, but I am happy to be back at school with Mr. Luke.
Today he and I started on a craft project.
I dont want to spoil it because I want to blog about it like the women who have real craft blogs do.

I hope you have a lovely day.
